What is Pipeline Studio?

Pipeline Studio is a free online flowchart and process map maker. You place boxes (steps, decisions, people, documents), connect them with arrows, and get a clear picture of who does what, in which order, and where things get stuck. It runs entirely in your browser, so there is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.

It is built for everyday processes, not only for software. Pick a starter set for marketing, restaurants, home projects, sales or websites, or build your own set of box types.

Real-life examples

Marketing

Map a monthly social media plan from idea to recording, approval, publishing and report, and see which step blocks the rest.

Restaurant or kitchen

Follow an order from the dining room to the kitchen pass, with stations, hygiene checkpoints and deliveries.

Home

Plan a renovation in the right order: measurements, permits, contractors, purchases, inspection.

Sales and support

Draw the path of a lead or a support ticket, including escalation and refunds.

Websites and apps

Map pages, forms, admin screens and what connects to what, then use the map as a testing checklist.

How to make a flowchart in 5 steps

  1. Click "Open Pipeline Studio" and choose a starter set, or begin with a blank map.
  2. Add a Start box and the first step. Name every box with a verb and an object, for example "Approve post".
  3. Add decisions as diamonds, with exactly two exits, such as Yes and No.
  4. Connect boxes by dragging from the dot on a box to the next one. Add labels to arrows when the path depends on a condition.
  5. Click "Save to disk". You get a file you can reopen later in Pipeline Studio, share, or export as PNG, SVG, PDF, CSV or Markdown.

How to read a process map

  • Read from Start to End, following the arrows. Normally that means left to right or top to bottom.
  • Rectangles are steps, diamonds are decisions, rounded shapes mark start and end.
  • Every diamond should have at least two labeled exits. If one is missing, the process has a gap.
  • Lanes (rows or columns with a person or team name) show who does each step. When an arrow crosses a lane border, work is handed over. Many handovers usually mean delays.
  • Look for loops (rework), steps with many arrows going in (bottlenecks) and boxes with no arrows at all (forgotten steps).

Common mistakes

  • Mixing levels of detail: "Run the company" next to "Click the button". Keep one level per map and use a sub-process for details.
  • Decisions with only one exit.
  • No clear start or end.
  • Boxes with vague names like "Process" or "Do it".
  • Drawing how it should work instead of how it actually works. Map reality first, then improve it.
  • Trusting only the browser. Your map is saved in this browser, which can be cleared. Save a file to disk after each session.
